Arrival to Vienna airport, transfer Veľká Fatra mountains

On the way we stop in the city of Trenčín and visit the Trenčín castle.

The history of the castle goes back to the age of the Roman Empire in 179 AD. In the 13-14th century, the castle became the residence of Matúš Čák, the legendary "Lord of the river Váh and the Tatra Mountains". The “Well of Love” located on the castle is connected to the legend of the Turkish prince Omar and his great love for the beautiful prisoner of the castle lord, Fatima. In order to rescue her, Omar dug a well in the hard rock of the castle. It took 3 years until the rock released water. Omar gave the lord the first goblet filled with water with words: “You have water, but you don’t have a heart”. When he was leaving the castle with Fatima, her veil got caught on a rosehip bush – the oldest restaurant in Trenčín called Fatima still stands at that place.

After dinner at the restaurant Fatima we will continue to the North to our hotel.

Hiking in the mountains of Veľká Fatra.

We will walk up the forest path and through the meadows to the ridge of the Velka Fatra mountains. Tasteful lunch in the chalet on the ridge. Demanding hiking trail which will be rewarded by beautiful views to the High Tatras. Low Tatras and Mala Fatra mountains.

Veľká Fatra (also Great Fatra or Greater Fatra) is a mountain range in the Western Carpathian and belongs to the most preserved mountain chains in Slovakia. It is a part of the Fatra-Tatra Area. The highest peak is Ostredok (1 592 m.a.s.l). Nearly 90% of the area is covered by forests. You can also find there a particularly interesting flora, also flowery subalpine meadows.

Departure to Prosiek, then hiking in the Choč mountains (Prosiecka and Kvačianska valleys). Both valleys belong to the most beautiful in Slovakia. The trail is moderately difficult, leading through the canyon of the river Prosiečanka. In some parts there are ladders and climbing irons.  

Prosiecka Valley - on the length of 3,5 km there are a great number of beauty spots, high rock walls, waterfalls, interesting mountain flora, as well as plentiful kinds of forest growth. An educational hiking trail will take you from Prosiek via Svorad and Veľké Borové to the Kvačianska Valley.

Full day hiking in the Western Tatras;

The mountains of the Western Tatras are similar to the High Tatras – the ridge is above 2000 m, stones and rocks. Demanding hiking will be remunerated by spectactular views to the whole range of the High Tatras, Western Tatras and also the Low Tatras.

Wild animals watching. The western part of the Tatras: less busy part of the Tatras, where animals are not disturbed by too many tourists. Therefore the territory is very suitable for watching bears and also chamois and marmots.

Transfer to the High Tatras and walk to the waterfalls of the Cold stream, considered to be the most beautiful ones in the High Tatras.

Transfer to Levoča. Since the Middle Ages until 1922 the city was an administrative and cultural centre of the Spiš region. It was one of the most important royal towns of the Hungarian Empire – a centre with precious Gothic and Renaissance architecture; famous Gothic church of St. Jacobs with the highest Gothic wooden altar in the world.

Lunch will be served at a traditional sheppard’s cottage in Spiš region – taste traditional Slovak dishes as “bryndzové halušky” (dumplings with sheep cheese served with crispy bacon), “baraní guláš” (mutton stew), “kapustnica” (sauerkraut soup, for dessert the must try is “makové šúľance” (potato dumplings with poppy seed).

Full day hiking in the Slovak Paradise. The trail goes through the woods to the rocky plato and then to the gorge of the Hornád river (iron steps on the rock above the river, chains). The route continues through an amazing gorge “Kláštorská roklina” to the ruins of an old monastery. Here we will have our lunch and continue down to Čingov

We drive to the mountain village Vlkolínec (“wolf village”), where traditional wooden architecture has remained untouched for more than 200 years. And here we can taste the typical Vlkolínec sauerkraut pie, which cannot be found anywhere but in Vlkolínec.

Transfer to Malá Fatra mountains. On the way we will have our lunch in the restaurant named after the “Slovak Robin Hood”, who was born here at the beginning of the 18^th century.

In the afternoon we will take an easy hiking on the ridge of the Malá Fatra Mountains. The lift will takes us up and down. Thus walking will be less demanding on this day even though, we will reach the highest peak of mountains Veľký Kriváň.

Full day hiking in the Malá Fatra mountains – more demanding hiking in the gorge of Janosikove diery – climbing on  ladders and chains. However, the trail is worth the effort.

Transfer to Bratislava, Bratislava sightseeing – the city is one of the youngest and the smallest of the central European capitals. During our city tour we walk through the narrow lanes of the Old town to see the Gothic St. Martin’s cathedral, Academia Istropolitana – the first university in the Kingdom of Hungary, St. Michael’s gate – the last surviving gate from the city’s medieval fortifications, the Opera house, and the old Main Square with the town hall and the Primatial Palace.
